Deputy to the Chief Innovation Officer

Centered around the role of the Dream Director—the new role in schools that is now in demand in more than 30 countries and all 50 states—The Future Project helps students see new possibilities for their future and change they can make in their society, believe it is possible, and develop the skillset and mindset to take bold action on their purpose. Everything The Future Project does in schools is predicated on three simple beliefs: that the most important outcome that a school can optimize for is thriving in life, not simply receiving a diploma and learning how to follow the rules of an outdated system; that change starts with an orientation of  partnership, not imposition; and that every young person—not just a select few—deserve to learn how to build an extraordinary life.

As The Future Project prepares to grow from serving 25,000 students to millions, from seven states to fifty states, and from a non-profit with 100 people on staff to one of the leading nonprofits in the nation with more—one day—than one thousand, we are searching for all-star leaders to join our passionate and possibility-fueled team.

We’re looking for a person with a strategic mind, an obsession with planning, a supportive disposition, and a bias towards action to play the role of Deputy to our CIO, Todd Holcomb. In this role, it is your personal mission to support Todd in using his time, his words, and his actions to the greatest possible impact. The Deputy to the Chief Innovation Office will be responsible for ensuring that the innovation functions smoothly and effectively by supporting the CIO with what he needs to be at his best:

  • Manage the CIO’s daily, weekly, monthly, and annual priorities, and help keep the CIO continuously grounded in them, by always being ahead of where the CIO needs to be strategically
  • Create curated sets of tasks and work for the CIO to focus on to ensure he is putting his attention in the most important place; ensure the CIO is always prepared to make decisions, respond to the needs of the organization, and stay abreast of critical work
  • Manage and prepare the CIO for his daily schedule; prepare meeting agendas, briefing documents, do research, and any other work, to ensure that every meeting is productive
  • Manage the CIO’s communications, parsing email, slack, and other tools, responding where appropriate, reviewing and summarizing where appropriate, creating actions where appropriate, and highlighting urgent needs;
  • Do proactive correspondence on behalf of the CIO, written and verbal, internally and externally
  • Take on special projects as assigned by the CIO, to further the innovation function’s  development, thinking strategically about the issues involved, researching, synthesizing, and distilling key insights into useable and thoughtful end results
  • Work with departmental leaders and all direct-reports of the CIO to prepare for meetings with the CIO and to regularly keep him prepared to make important decisions
  • Attend, and follow up from, essential meetings, internally and externally
  • Help CIO craft and stick to routines for leading the innovation function
